Storage Recommendations for Printed Photographs

  • Store printed photos in an approved non-acidic photo storage container or album.
  • Plastic containers should be made of polyethylene, polypropylene, or polyester.
  • Store frequently handled photos in plastic sleeves for folders designed specifically for that purpose.
  • Photos should be stacked vertically, not on top of each other.
  • Keep photos where you live, in a cool, dry, place; out of the direct sunlight.
  • For more on storing archival grade photos, visit the U.S. National Archives website.
